Biosand Water Filter Construction and Installation
What do we do?
Our team members construct, distribute, and install household biosand water filters and monitor every one of them. We provide training on the care and maintenance of the filters and service them if needed.
What is a household biosand filter?
The Biosand Water Filter has been shown to remove the following from contaminated water if installed and used properly:
Up to 100% of protozoa
Up to 98.5% of bacteria
70-99% of viruses
can also remove up to 95% of turbidity (dirt and cloudiness)
How do we do it?
Villagers wanting to improve their health come to us to ask for assistance to create healthy homes.
A community meeting is held to introduce components of a healthy home. The biosand water filter is presented to the group and a list of names of participants interested in purchasing a filter at a nominal price (to help foster a sense of ownership) is created. The biosand filter is constructed, delivered to a drop point where the owner picks it up and takes it to their home. Our team then installs the filter. During the installation, a baseline inventory of items the home needs to ensure the family remains healthy is created. Goals are set with the family to begin working on the missing components. Our team follows-up with the homeowner 4 times over the following year to make sure the filter is working and the goals are being reached.
